What is the conference?
During the fall of 2018, Tufts students Emilia Charno, Alex Martin, and Hannah San Sebastian had the opportunity to present original research at the Worcester World Languages Undergraduate Conference. In doing so, they gained confidence in their abilities to produce high quality research and to share it with others in a formal academic setting. Usually, there are limited chances for undergraduates in humanities-based courses to attend this kind of conference, particularly one with emphasis on public-speaking and academic presentation in a foreign language. With the inaugural Tufts Undergraduate Spanish Language Conference, we hope to foster a legacy that showcases foreign language study and intellectual curiosity among the Tufts student body. Time and Date: April 10, 2021 from 10 AM EST - 4:30 PM EST Location: Zoom Meeting ID: 951 7457 3582 Passcode: 917968 |

The opportunity to present an original project in Spanish both challenged me and helped me grow as a public speaker and researcher. As our relationship to space continues to change radically during the pandemic, we are thrilled to create a space where Tufts students and faculty can come together virtually to deepen language skills and be curious. ~Emilia Charno
As an undergraduate student studying languages, I am especially grateful for the opportunity to not only showcase my research but to hear from likeminded students and learn about the research and projects they are pursuing. ~ Hannah San Sebastian
Students in the humanities have fewer opportunities to share their original research in an academic setting. However, I was lucky enough to find one of those opportunities during my sophomore year, and it sparked a love of Spanish which has greatly enriched my undergraduate education. I hope that our conference will provide a similar space for Tufts students for years to come. ~Alex Martin
